The Gerda and Klaus Tschira Foundation (GKTS) based in Heidelberg was established by its namesakes in 2008. In December, this charitable institution acquired the Energie country estate once owned by Nobel laureate Wilhelm Ostwald from the government of Saxony.

The foundation has set itself the goals of maintaining Wilhelm Ostwald Park, a conservation area and listed estate, in the spirit of Wilhelm Ostwald himself, opening up his life and works to the general public, and promoting scientific and cultural dialogue.
